Mumbai police have made a pre-emptive move arresting over a thousand Shiv Sainiks, to avoid any disruptions or violence unleashed by the party on the day of the release of Shahrukh Khan's new film 'My Name is Khan' on Friday (February 12). The preventive detentions have been made across Mumbai city, two days ahead of the release date.
The police has also provided special security to movie theatres screening the film. In the wake of the Sena intensifying protests against Khan, leaves of the city policemen have been cancelled to ensure their full presence on Friday. To further strengthen security, personnel from State Reserve Police Force and Home Guards will be deployed at the 63 theatres that will screen the film in the city.
Karan Johar, director and co-producer of 'My Name...' has met Police Commissioner D Sivanandhan to discuss security issues ahead of the movie's release.
More than 1,000 Shiv Sena activists have been arrested for vandalising cinema halls and multiplexes that will screen Shah Rukh Khan starrer "My Name Is Khan", officials here said Wednesday.
Till Wednesday morning, 1,023 Sena workers had been arrested under various charges like rioting, damaging property, unlawful assembly and trespass. They had also attacked Broadway cinema at Kandivalli East in the city.
