Onion export price cut by 37 pc to USD 250 per tonne | India Market

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Agriculture cooperative Nafed today fixed the export price of onion at USD 250 a tonne, down by USD 150 from March rate.

"The onion MEP (minimum export price) for April has been fixed at an average of USD 250 a tonne as against USD 400 in March," Y K Jain, General Manager of Nafed, the designated agency for regulating onion exports, said.

Nafed, along with 13 other agencies involved in onion export, decides the MEP every month. No export can take place below the MEP and all contracts are registered with Nafed.

Reduction in MEP helps boost export as farmers are able to sell their crops in overseas destinations when realisation from domestic market do not support them.
