how to get google buzz

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Today Google announced it is rolling out a new social-networking product called Google Buzz.

Something of an amalgamation, it combines features of Twitter, Picasa and Gmail filtered through Google search algorithms in an attempt to show you only social content that is most relevant to you.

The product is being rolled out with special software for phones, including an iPhone and Android app.

Google Buzz puts social posts into your Gmail account along with photos, videos, and comments. So Buzz posts in Gmail aren’t static, but show what people’s responses in real time.

It can be accessed from the phone in three ways. On a Google home screen, there will be a Buzz icon in the upper right-hand corner that allows immediate access. The second will be from the Buzz app. The third will be through the new Google Maps.

Buzz will we use a phone’s GPS to help you find useful posts. For instance, on a map you will see icons for nearby places that have had comments posted about them. Touch those icons to read the comments. Your comments will also be automatically geo-tagged.

You will be able to download the program from Buzz.google.com over the next several days, said the company. Gmail users will find the computer version automatically appearing on their account.

This is not Google’s first foray into social media. It has two products, Google Profiles and Orkut, which did not achieve the same success as the popular social site Facebook.

Asked if Buzz would link with Facebook, a presenter at the Buzz unveiling said, “We don’t have anything to announce at this time, but we’ll think about it.”
